Our next Rialto Recommends happens to the film debut of Reese Witherspoon. In 1991 she starred in a film titled THE MAN IN THE MOON. It is the story of two sisters who fall for the same new neighbor boy in rural Louisiana in the summer of 1957 when Elvis was King. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Sam Waterston, Tess Harper, and Gail Strickland, THE MAN IN THE MOON was the final film from director Robert Mulligan who's other credits include Clara's Heart, Kiss Me Goodbye, Same Time, Next Year, Summer of '42 and To Kill a Mockingbird. Roger Ebert raved "THE MAN IN THE MOON is a wonderful movie, but it is more than that, it is a victory of tone and mood. It is like a poem." The film blog From the Front Row said "Few filmmakers have captured the American south quite like Mulligan, and The Man in the Moon is his graceful, deeply moving farewell." THE MAN IN THE MOON is streaming on Amazon Prime, Hoopla and DirectTV and is available to rent for a modest fee from Redbox, Amazon, GooglePlay, Apple, YouTube, Vudu and others HERE.
