Prior to starring in The Favorite, The Crown and The Father, British actress and Oscar winner Olivia Coleman starred in the 2015 film LONDON ROAD. LONDON ROAD is a musical drama that documents the events of 2006, when the quiet rural town of Ipswich was shattered by the discovery of the bodies of five women. The residents of LONDON ROAD had struggled for years with frequent soliciting and kerb-crawling on their street. When a local resident was charged and then convicted of the murders, the community grappled with what it meant to be at the epicentre of this tragedy. Equal parts enthralling and unsettling, LONDON ROAD uses an unusual documentary/musical hybrid to tell a grim true-life tale. Directed by National Theatre Artistic Director Rufus Norris. The Globe and Mail said "Once Rufus Norris's film gets going, it quickly reveals itself as a vibrant, almost revolutionary work." While London's The Guardian declared "It is an addictive forensic thriller set to music, and Olivia Colman's presence makes it look like Broadchurch crossed with Les Mis. But there's more subtlety and intricacy than you could expect from either." LONDON ROAD is streaming on Hoopla and BritBox or is available to rent for a modest fee from Apple, Amazon, GooglePlay, YouTube, Vudu and others. The film did not receive a significant theatrical release in the US but it it worth checking out.
