Our next Rialto Recommends is a movie that we would have opened on Fri, Dec 4th had we been able to be open and showing movies. Based on the acclaimed 2019 Broadway musical THE PROM is Ryan Murphy's celebratory film adaptation starring Meryl Streep, James Cordon, Andrew Rannells, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Keegan-Michal Key, Ariana DeBose and introducing Jo Ellen Pellman. In THE PROM a troupe of hilariously self-obsessed theater stars swarm into a small conservative Indiana town in support of a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom. Through fiery songs and dance breaks, The Prom's bonanza of glitz, glitter, and jazz hands will whisk audiences away. CNN said "A valentine to theater coupled with an overt message about LGBTQ acceptance and inclusion. All of that comes wrapped in a big neon bow, a joyous holiday gift for fans of musical theater, made by people who love the medium every bit as much as they do." And Variety said "The movie has a universalist spirit that's wired into its very form. It turns doing the right thing into a fizzy and elating high-camp showbiz high."
