Our next Rialto Recommends takes us to Paris in 1936 in the aptly titled PARIS 36. A star is born in a time of both celebration and instability in this historical drama with music from director Christophe Barratier. In the spring of 1936, Paris is in a state of uncertainty; while the rise of the Third Reich in Germany worries many, a leftist union-oriented candidate, Léon Blum, has been voted into power, and organized labor is feeling its new power by standing up to management. The Los Angeles Times raved "An irresistible and impeccable period musical set against the political and economic turmoil of France in the mid-'30s." While Variety said "A bracingly old-fashioned, lushly visualized showbiz meller set against pre-World War II Gallic political unrest." PARIS 36 is available to rent for a modest fee from Amazon, Vudu, Apple, GooglePlay, YouTube and DirectTV HERE.
