Following his beautiful films The Black Stallion (1979), Never Cry Wolf (1983), and Fly Away Home (1996) legendary director Carroll Ballard returned in 2005 with DUMA which is our next Rialto Recommends. With a deceptively simple log line DUMA is an adventure for everyone. An orphaned cheetah becomes the best friend and pet of a young boy living in South Africa. The Los Angeles Times raved "Simultaneously innocent and sophisticated, this honestly emotional fable shows why every Ballard film -- and his last was released almost a decade ago -- is a special event." While the New York Times said "This soulful, piercingly beautiful story about a boy and his cheetah marks the welcome return to the screen of the director Carroll Ballard." Unfortunately, the film received a botched release by its distributor in 2005 and many people missed it's "there for a moment" release. DUMA is streaming on Roku Channel, Vudu, and Sling or available to rent for a modest fee from Amazon, Apple, GooglePlay, YouTube, Vudu, and others HERE.
