Save Our Cinema – Write Your Senators!
Write to your senators HERE about the Save Our Stages Extension Act today!
Movies are meant to be seen on the big screen. No filmmaker envisions his or her movie being made to be seen on television or worse yet a phone. Movies were meant to be seen in a darkened theater light flickering on the big screen and the audience caught up in the story the filmmakers are telling.
Our industry has been in has been terribly affected by the pandemic and our business is down almost 70% over pre-pandemic levels. We have been able to survive thanks to a grant from the Small Business Administration's Shuttered Venue Operator Grants program or SVOG. The SVOG program provided vital subsidy to help us sustain our operations during the pandemic. However the program is set to end on June 30 of this year and our business is not yet back to a level that is sustaining.
In order to survive we need your help. We need you to do three things:
The first is if you enjoy the movie you're about to see you today please tell your friends and neighbors and loved ones about it and encourage them to come and see the film here in the theater.
Second when when you're talking to your friends and relatives coworkers loved ones about Film and they say oh yeah I think I will see that when it comes on Netflix or streaming please encourage them to see movies in the theater. Even Netflix realizes that movies were meant to be seen on the big screen and has been making their best films available to theaters before putting the films on their service.
Finally, please call or write your elected representatives in the United States Congress and the United States Senate and encourage them to support extending the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program into 2023. We aren't asking for more money. All we are asking is that the grants that we have already received be allowed to be extended into next year so that the funds may be used for their intended purposes to help our industry fully recover from the pandemic.
