In the late 80's two different film adaptations of Choderlos de Laclos's 1782 four part novel Les Liasons Dangereuses were commissioned. One film version directed by Stephen Frears titled Dangerous Liasons was further based on Christopher Hampton's stage adaptation of the material in 1985. Our next Rialto Recommends is the lesser seen film version VALMONT by Milos Forman and starring Colin Firth, Annette Bening and Meg Tilly in the central roles. Rolling Stone said of VALMONT "The film is rapturously beautiful, enticing us into a lush, aristocratic world." While Roger Ebert observed "The Frears version is cerebral and claustrophobic, an exercise in sexual mindplay. Forman's is more physical." VALMONT is available to rent for a modest fee from Amazon or Apple. Dangerous Liaisons is on HBOMax or available to rent from GooglePlay, YouTube, Vudu and others HERE.
