The road movie is a classic movie plot that has been used through the decades of cinema. One of our favorite road movies is the original THE MUPPET MOVIE from 1979 which was the first big screen outing for Jim Henson's beloved characters. Of course in the parlance of today THE MUPPET MOVIE was also an origin story - the story of how the Muppets got together. While living the quiet life in a swamp, Kermit the Frog is approached by a Hollywood agent to audition for the chance of a lifetime. So Kermit takes this chance for his big break as he makes the journey to Hollywood. Along the way, Kermit comes across several quirky new friends including comedic Fozzie Bear, beautiful but feisty Miss Piggy, and the Great Gonzo. But Kermit must also watch out for ruthless Doc Hopper, who plans to use him as his spokesman for his frog legs food chain. Roger Ebert raved "Jolson sang, Barrymore spoke, Garbo laughed, and now Kermit the Frog rides a bicycle... If you can figure out how they were able to show Kermit pedaling across the screen, then you are less a romantic than I am: I prefer to believe he did it himself." While Film Threat declared "The Muppet Movie has never suffered, still one of many great reasons to be a movie buff." And the movie blog Looking Closer reminds us "This isn't about one sock puppet's search to be all that he can be. It's about a community combining their talents to bring joy to the world." We can't think of a better message in these troubling days. Packed with tons of fun cameos THE MUPPET MOVIE will lift your spirits. THE MUPPET MOVIE is streaming on Disney+ or is available to rent for a modest fee from Apple, Amazon, GooglePlay, YouTube, Vudu and others HERE.
