When Director/Protagonist Julia’s fiancé falls in love with another woman, leaving her bereft and broken, Julia takes a wild chance to immerse herself in a free-love community in Portugal on a quest to reckon with her own unexamined truth in love, leading to a crossroads where longings for both family and freedom collide against the backdrop of a world on fire.

Filmed over nearly a decade, Love School is a courageous documentary memoir of a young Polish-American woman’s winding journey from maiden to mother– as she dares to step outside of the narrow walkway of society’s path to love. Despite her own cultural conditioning, Julia fights to think for herself on the topics of love, sexuality and relationships, and is guided by several compelling characters along the way. Her story is one of initiation and challenges the root of cultural narratives around sex, womanhood and belonging, asking the question, “what is freedom in love?”
